Oh my god, wait, suddenly Steve/Bucky feels???

I just, I am suddenly so compelled to write like, a That 70’s Show Avengers AU—I DON’T KNOW WHY THIS PICTURE GAVE ME THESE FEELS, maybe it’s the fact that it’s a landline, maybe it’s Sebastian Stan’s stupid perfect fact who knows—but like. Ughhhh Steve and Bucky are next door neighbors Eric & Donna style, and Tony is Jackie because like, obviously Tony is Jackie, and Natasha is Hyde and Thor is Fez and after that the comparisons sort of break down because Bruce obvs isn’t anything like Kelso, and Clint totally fills the asshole part but not the dumb part (and ditto Tony), but that’s actually fine because the only thing I really care about is Steve and Bucky living next door to each other, it being the Avengers in high school in the 70s, and COULSON AND FURY BEING KITTY AND RED—

—and this totally isn’t that kind of idea at all, tonally, so it REALLY doesn’t matter. Just. Coulson and Fury as Kitty and Red. Please everyone picture that. Aaaaaand carrying on:

I got off-track from my Bucky feels with the non-essential setup, because like. I just. Ughhhh they grow up next door to each other, right, Steve and Bucky, and it’s not WWII, it’s Vietnam, only they’re too young to be getting drafted so they’re just watching it on the news and they’ve been best friends for such a long time and they’ve got this whole group of pals, Thor the exchange student who keeps trying to talk them into mead and Natasha who is so anti-establishment it’s hilarious and Bruce who vacillates between being shy and being FURIOUS and Clint who is hysterical, but such a dick, and Tony “I Have More Money Than God Didn’t You Know” Stark, and they all seem so strange, but so normal.

And the thing is Bucky Barnes knows he isn’t normal, not by the standards in the 70s, not when he’s staying up all hours of the night talking to Steve on the phone and waving to him through the window, when he’s laying flat on his back on top of his dad’s station wagon with Steve next to him just to feel the edges of his warmth, not when he’s looking for the patch of skin visible under Steve’s shirt sometimes when they play basketball. Bucky knows that Steve, who has artist’s hands and the kind of personality that people just follow for all he’s a little on the skinny side, is something he shouldn’t want and isn’t ever going to have that way—

—but he WANTS IT ANYWAY, and then shenanigans and Tony Stark circa 1970 and HOWARD STARK because why not and Steve feeling exactly the same way Bucky does and the two of them stumbling towards each other and meanwhile Clint and Bruce are making out in the stoner circle when no one is looking and Natasha keeps bringing this girl Pepper around who Tony’s clearly got a thing for and one of the other exchange students is in like a ~battle of wills~ with Thor, it’s very strange, especially because he wears this big bug hat all the time.

AND MEANWHILE NICK FURY IS UPSTAIRS GOING, “THEY’RE SMOKING POT, AREN’T THEY, PHIL.” 

So Jizz has all the best ideas, everybody already knew that, right?
